James e la pesca gigante di Rohal Dahl

Rimasto orfano a nove anni James viene affidato a due zie senza scrupoli che lo obbligano ai più pesanti lavori.

Un giorno James incontra un misterioso signore che gli regala un sacchetto di lingue verdi.

James sparge le lingue davanti ad un pesco e di lì a poco da uno dei rami dell'albero nasce una pesca di oltre sei metri di diametro. Mentre le zie pensano a come trarre vantaggio dall'evento, il piccolo morde il frutto, vi entra e fa conoscenza con un gruppo di insetti che vi abitano.

Dal libro è stato tratto un film considerato uno dei migliori di animazione degli anni novanta, diretto da Henry Selik e realizzato con il concorso della Walt Disney.

Since JATGP became standard reading fare in the early ’60s, there have been plenty of illustrations and covers and art students attempt to capture the essence of James and his over-sized fruit to choose from. Three, though, stand out as the most iconic of Dahl’s vision.

Little known fact: Roald Dahl’s James and Giant Peach was originally going to be entitled James and the Giant Cherry, but Dahl edited the title to peach because a peach is “prettier, bigger and squishier than a cherry.”

Lane Smith, Puffin 1996

Perhaps best known for his relationship with Jon Scieszka, Lane Smith illustrated an edition of JATGP in the mid-90s and later become the art director for Tim Burton’s film adaptation of the work.

La favola di Momotarō venne conosciuta in occidente attraverso il libro "Tales of old Japan" di Algernon Mitford, più noto come lord Redesdale, pubblicato nel 1871. Da allora Momotarō è rimasto forse il personaggio giapponese più popolare nel mondo, ma la favola è meno conosciuta.
